Abstract |
During the period of 2015-2016 a study of commercial and game mammal species in the inter-riverine region of the Anabar and Olenyok Rivers was carried out in the area of the Tomtor Field of rare-earth metals. The main method used for material collection was winter route censuses. The main commercial and game species of the region is the wild reindeer, and among the fur-producing species there are the arctic fox and sable. All commercial and game species in the area of the research have rather low population density, which is a consequence of the geographic location of the region. The area of the designed enterprise is crossed by migration routes of the wild reindeer. Mining for rare-earth metals and, in particular, the development of the road network associated with it can have a negative impact on the herd, unless special measures are taken to minimize the negative impact. In particular, the following is proposed: complete prohibition of hunting the reindeer in the vicinity of the road; closing the road except for special transport; organizing monitoring of the reindeer migration in the road area with radio transmitters; during the periods of active migration, closing the road completely for all transport, with special attention towards preventing the hunting of the reindeer near the road in this period; to prevent the increase of the radiation background of meat products, limiting the penetration of the reindeer into the sanitary protection zone of the enterprise by fencing it off. |
